What a Trying Couple of Weeks!

If it Weren't For Bad Luck...
Remember that song from Hee Haw? If it weren't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all--well that's been me for the past two weeks. My mother thinks I'm trying to get out of singing at the Alzheimer's home she's in, but I'm really not!
It started out with a rash on my arm. I've been prone to staph infections and the rash felt like one was coming on, so I scurried to my doctor, who said I would be the one to recognize it in it's early stages and sent me home with an antibiotic. I was scheduled to sing at mom's two days away so I cancelled, thinking I sure don't want to give 22 elderly folks a staph infection. The antibiotic did nothing, so I went back. Two doctors conferred and they felt it was some sort of a contact dermatitis and gave me a prescription for a steroid cream. The next day, my left thumb began hurting like the dickins, so I wrapped it up in an ace bandage and prepared to have two of my brothers and their wives visit for the weekend for the infamous "Garland Days". One of my sister-in-laws has horrible allergies and asthma and was in misery the whole time she was here. They left on Sunday and we settled back into our routine.
Monday morning I went to buy a few groceries so I could make my husband a special dinner. I hadn't felt good the previous week and hadn't done much cooking so I decided I would make something nice--and do something my hair and even put on makeup. Around 2 o'clock, I dyed my hair to it's natural dark brown, took I shower, put my hair up on rollers (am I aging myself here?) and carefully put on makeup. I saw carefully because I don't see so well without my glasses on close-up work and I haven't figured out how to do mascara with glasses on. Around 3:00 I took out the rollers and knew hubby would love my hair. I figured I had about an hour to write before I needed to start dinner.
My favorite place and position to write is to sit on my left foot in my recliner. I have a lap board that I made, modeled after one my grandmother used to use and it had plenty of room for my laptop, mouse and a pad of paper. So I sat there for an hour. When I realized that it was 4:00 I stood up, lapboard and contents in my hands, only to realize that my left foot and ankle were dead asleep. I realized this as my lapboard went flying as I went down, badly rolling my ankle and falling over onto my right hip. Pain shot through my ankle and I laid there trying to remember if I'd heard a pop. Thankfully my cell phone had been on the lapboard and had gone flying along with everything else, but was in reach. My laptop was upside down on the hardwood floor, the mouse had come apart, but the cell phone was right by my hand. I called hubby who rushed home to take me to the ER. We were expecting a notoriously long wait, but it only took two hours for xrays and all! Hubby mentioned while we were there that he had a very bad sore throat. The doctor told me it was a bad sprain and not broken, put me in an air cast and off we went. So much for my special dinner with hubby. At least he noticed (and liked) my hair! Later, as we were reading in bed, I noticed I was getting a scratchy throat.
So, it's Thursday and I'm supposed to sing on Monday. I'm coughing and hacking my brains out and my throat feels like rough sandpaper. My thumb is still killing me, which affects playing guitar, and my doctor's appointment is tomorrow. I have a bad feeling that I'm going to be disappointing my mother again. I don't want to take those nice folks a cold any more than I wanted to give them staph. At this point, I just want to see my mom--and can't.
