What I Would do if I Won the Lottery
62What Having Millions Would Mean to me
I don't ever have to worry about this actually happening, since I don't buy lottery tickets, but I still dream of what I would do for my family, friends, Church and strangers. Ten percent of the winnings would go to my Church as a tithe.
I would pay off all of my children's bills and buy them each a home. Probably a car too. My six grandchildren would all get a college fund set up for them so they wouldn't have to worry about where the money for college was going to come from. My brother's homes would not have a mortgage.
Our Pastor owns a small oil company and I'm sure he'd love to go fill the tanks of people in need, which I would pay for. Those same people would receive gift cards from local grocery stores. I'm sure the town manager of my town could tell me who could use a little help here; I'd pay their taxes, fill up their oil tanks and ask if they have any other needs that I could help them with. I wouldn't give my name, just say that I'm a Christian doing what Jesus wants me to do.
In the summer, I'd drive to Sears and load a couple riding lawnmowers on my truck and drive around until I found a person mowing a huge lawn with a push mower. In the winter, I'd ride around with snowblowers and give them to people shoveling their driveways. I'd give out air conditioners on hot days, generators when a ice storm is predicted. I'd hand out grocery gift cards like a business man hands out business cards.
I'd donate a large sum to the women's shelters in the State; they're always underfunded. I'd buy up beautiful handmade quilts at craft fairs and donate them to homeless shelters and women's shelters.
Whenever I went through a drive-thru I would pay for the person behind me. Maybe even in a grocery store--wouldn't that surprise someone!
Just the thought of doing this makes me feel so good. I wish I could really do it. I love the idea that it's so personal; not like a big philanthropist who builds a building and has his name on it. Sure that makes a lot of people happy, I'd rather shake their hand as I give them a lawn mower and air conditioner and tell them Jesus loves them.
